Frequently Asked Questions
I've compiled a list of the most common questions I get asked. Hopefully this will save you some time. If you don't find your question listed, send me an email!
How much do you charge for your services?
Answer: I charge $25/quarter-hour for my consultation fee. The great thing is that if you decide to move forward on a project with me after the consultation, there is no consultation fee! This means that you receive my expertise at absolutely no cost when we do a project together! Pricing for projects varies based on the complexity and I require a deposit equal to 50% of the proposed project and then the remainder of the balance is dispersed along the time-line as required.
Why should we choose your services over another?
Answer: Great question! First, the majority of my client base consists of business owners who were not happy with the service they were previously being provided. I stepped in and started providing the level and quality of service that every business deserves. It's not surprising that my client base also consists of businesses I have been working with for over ten years now! Being a sole proprietor, I am quicker and more agile than most other competitors and this allows me to really focus on superb customer service and satisfaction.
Second, most other services are technicians or fly-by-the-seat-of-their-pants designers. Or they may be a DIY (do it yourself) service like Wix or Square Space. Anyone can build a web site. It's not that technically challenging and there are so many DIY options available for the taking. Also, we can spend all the money in the world building a site that can do EVERYTHING and yet, if it's not getting any traffic and converting traffic to leads, it's all for nothing. Figuring out the best way to maximize your marketing dollars for the optimum return is where the wheat gets separated from the chaff around here.
You advocate the use of social media to others, why don't you use it yourself?
Answer: Social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc., have never found a place in my heart and it's doubtful they ever will. Yes, those types of services can be of value to any business, but a lot of it depends on the individual business and your preferred method of advertising and collecting potential new clients. I wrote a great article on my blog covering this particular topic, called "Breaking the Rules".
The short of it is those social media platforms don't fit my target market. I specialize in B2B services, so the likelihood of me finding a quality prospective client through Facebook is fairly slim. In order to make social media platforms successful, you have to spend a great deal of time and energy focusing on them. My marketing is better spent in other areas, such as blogging to enhance the education of visitors to my site. Also, because I prefer to seek out those businesses I feel would be a good match and fun to work with, I don't want just anyone to call me up or email me, and by not casting a wide net, but a focused one, I get the kind of results I'm really looking for. The end result? I spend less time focusing on those things that aren't complimentary to what I am trying to accomplish.
What types of non-profit organizations do you work with?
Answer: Giving back to the community has always been a passion of mine. I have worked with food banks, Habitat for Humanity, and various animal shelters and rescues, just to name a few. The really cool thing? Working with those great organizations doesn't necessarily mean I'm providing online business expertise. For some, I have done nothing more than helped out in the warehouse or handed out food to those less fortunate. It always feels good to help those in need and it's a great source of introspection as well. Many of us, have no idea how good we really have it!
What is the most challenging part of your business?
Answer: Being an introvert, it can be a challenge to interact with people I don't know. I suspect I will forever be ill at ease in a room full of people where I know no one! That said, I have never been one to let challenges get the better of me. I may have a slow start initially, but once I am able to find some common ground and get to know the other person a bit, things become much more fluid.
